According to a report published in the Mumbai Edition of Pudhari newspaper on July 12, 2026, diploma courses in engineering and technology have seen an overwhelming surge in popularity. The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) released the final merit list, which includes 1,41,005 students competing for around 1.20 lakh available seats across 400 polytechnic institutes in Maharashtra.The report highlights a fierce competition among high scorers, including 5 students with a perfect 100% score, 352 students scoring between 96% and 99%, and 6,442 students scoring above 90%. Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil attributed this historic registration boom to updated curriculums, excellent employment prospects, and direct second-year degree admission pathways.
